Thunderbirds announce 2021-2022 schedule


Winston-Salem, N.C.—The Carolina Thunderbirds have released their complete slate of games for the upcoming 2021-2022  season. It will be Carolina’s 5th season of competition in the Federal Prospects Hockey League.


The Thunderbirds’ 63-game schedule is the longest of any team in the FPHL this season. Carolina will host Delaware on October 29th for the first of 30 home games on the docket. This will be the team’s first game in Winston-Salem in exactly 600 days, its most recent home game being March 8th, 2020.


The 2021-2022 FPHL season will feature seven teams: Binghamton, Danbury, Delaware, and Watertown in the East Division, while Carolina, Columbus, and Port Huron fill out the West Division.


Carolina will play its division opponents a total of 40 times, the most frequent opponent being the Columbus River Dragons (15 games). The Thunderbirds and River Dragons will meet for the first time on November 12th at the Columbus Civic Center. Carolina’s fiercest rival will return to Winston-Salem the following week for a Saturday showdown on November 20th.


Port Huron, Carolina’s other division opponent, enters the Fairgrounds Annex for the first time on December 11th. The Prowlers are Carolina’s second most common opponent, as the teams will clash 13 times over the course of the season.


Carolina will spend most of December on the road, notably traveling down to Biloxi, Mississippi on December 17th for a neutral site battle against Columbus. 2021 will be capped off by a New Year’s Eve battle with the Hat Tricks.


The Binghamton Black Bears, the FPHL’s newest franchise, arrives in Winston-Salem for the first time on March 25th for a three-game weekend. Carolina will return the favor three weeks later, closing out its regular season with a pair of games in Binghamton on April 15th and 16th.
